The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ campus was alive with excitement on Friday, January 17, as it officially kicked off its year-long celebrations commemorating the university's founding in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. This year marks 100 years of academic excellence, faith, community impact, and groundbreaking achievements.

The day began with a celebratory morning mass led by Father Victor Laroche. It was followed by remarks atop the University Center from featured speakers, bringing together the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ community and invited guests.

"As we reflect on the century of achievements, let us set forth our sights on the next 100 years. ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s story is one of innovation and perseverance. It's a story of resilience in the face of adversity and hope for a brighter future," said Reynold Verret, Ph.D., ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ President. "Together, we have an opportunity to build upon the remarkable foundation, ensuring that ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ continues to be a beacon of opportunity and excellence for all who come through these incredible doors."

 

Many speakers, including ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ University President Verret, shared inspiring words about ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s legacy and future. The full roster of speakers included:

After the celebratory remarks, President Verret and other representatives rang golden centennial bells to commemorate the occasion. Afterward, the crowd moved downstairs to the University Center's yard for celebrations, including presentations from the Divine 9 organizations, food trucks, photo booths, dancing, and more. The event concluded with a lively second line, accompanied by a brass band and tramps from the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, as participants cheerfully waved their centennial handkerchiefs. The launch event is just the beginning of what will be an unforgettable year for ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.
